Irresponsible disposal of waste materials can be very dangerous to the environment and all the living things on Mother Earth. As such, all responsible commercial food outlets make use of what is referred to as a grease trap to eliminate waste grease and similar types of waste from reaching the waste water system. To say the truth, the importance of keeping the fats, grease and oils from reaching the waste water system can not be understated. These types of pollutants are responsible for most of the plumbing problems facing commercial or residential kitchens.
As the temperature changes, fats, oils and grease from the said kitchens tend to change their physical state to become something that is quite hard to remove from the waste water drain system. In simpler terms, as the said substances cool down, they tend to become semisolid, subsequently sticking to the inner lining of the drainage pipes in the kitchen. This in turn restricts the flow of the waste water from the kitchen, eventually blocking the entire drainage system. If not regularly taken care off, dirty water is eventually forced back to the kitchen sink, posing a serious sanitation crisis.
To help to separate the oils, grease and fats from the drained water, all food outlet owners are required to install grease traps in their kitchen drainage systems. Grease traps may be installed inside or outside the building.
